Adopt a Boxer / Mastiff / Mixed

Boxer / Mastiff / Mixed Dog

Apollo the Dog needs a home

APOLLO is a big sweetheart who's looking for nothing but love and companionship!  Apollo is a beautiful 70lb Boxer and Mastiff mix, who was taken in by one of our fabulous fosters when his owner passed away and he had no where to go.  Now, we're helpinng to find him the very best forever home!

TEMPERAMENT

Apollo is a big love bug!  He LOVES going outside and really loves to go on walks with his people.  He's incredibly smart -- he learned how to walk nicely on a leash in 10 minutes!  He's crate and house trained, and even does a  super job waiting for permission to eat (with drool falling all over the floor!).

OTHER ANIMALS

Apollo apparently had a traumatic event with a larger dog in his past, because since being in foster care, he's shown some fear to larger-breed dogs.  He has lived with small breed dogs (Chihuahua, for example), but all introductions must be done very slowly, and any new dogs must be very respectful.  He currently resides with a 50lb female GSD/Lab mix, who he does very well with, and a larger male/female pair of GSD/Lab mixes, who, at times he gets into scuffles with the other male in the home.  We believe Apollo could live with another dog if his owner takes time to do proper, slow introductions with lots of ongoing supervision, or he could easily be an only dog.

CHILDREN

Apollo was temp-fostered in a home with an active 4-year old child, and he did wonderfull well.  We believe he would be find living with respectful children (keeping in mind it's important to have good supervision at all times!), and he would also be just as happy in a quieter home without young kids.

MEDICAL

Apollo is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations, is neutered, and is current on heartworm preventatives.  He's a strong, healthy boy!

Apollo is an amazing boy who is waiting for the right person or family to come along and discover how wonderful he really is!  He promises to be a fabulous companion to one very lucky family.  Apply now if you feel you'd be a great match with Apollo!  (Courtesy listing)

APOLLO's ADOPTION FEE:   $150
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

PLEASE READ THIS:

  1. We're picky about our adopters!  GSDs are not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort and training.  They shed all year round.  They're big and scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and are usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time applying.

  2. All MOGS dogs must be inside family pets. We do not adopt to outdoor only homes.

  3. When you're not home, you must put your dog indoors (NOT in the yard).  One adopted MoGS dog died after the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, someone opened the gate, and she was hit by a car.  Privacy fences get broken into, gates are opened, thieves steal dogs. NEVER leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!

  4. You're required to make a lifetime commitment.  The minute you adopt, it is your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.  Only you can do that.

  5. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.

  6. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?  If you move?  If you have a child?

  7. You're making a lifetime commitment to a MOGS Dog.   We expect you to keep it!  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
